About IDI
In 1419 the Arte della Seta (Silk Guild) founded the Istituto degli Innocenti with the specific aim of housing and educating abandoned children.
The work of the Istituto today overwhelmingly takes the form of documentation, research and training activities for government bodies, in particular:
Mention should further be made of the collaboration, of more than 10 years' standing, between the Istituto and UNICEF-IRC that has permitted, among other activities, the setting up of the Biblioteca Innocenti Library.
In terms of services the Istituto runs three crèches, a service for abandoned or neglected children, organized on a family model, and two houses for mothers in difficulty.
